The first grade students in Mrs. Buckley's classroom and Mr. Condon's classroom conducted three science experiments that focused on "making predictions." The students predicted what would happen when the sugar, flour, and a mystery powder were added to water, each separately. The students came up with some great predictions. The mystery powder was the most fascinating. The mystery powder was a snow polymer. When water is added to the polymer, the polymer absorbs the water and grows. It will continue to grow as more water is added. This special snow polymer is actually cold to the touch as real snow and resembles real snow. This type of polymer is used on movie sets to make snow. It is also similar to the polymer that is found in diapers. Be sure to ask your child about being a Mad Scientist.
