Sight Word Assessments

Due to being away from the classroom on Friday, the students will be assessed on Monday on the following list of words: K, 1-1, & 1-2. Students will not be assessed on list 1-3. The first grade students will be assessed every other week on the sight words that are taught. The sight words are obtained from the reading series that is utilized in the classroom. The assessment is usually adminstered on the Friday of the assessment week. The students should be able to recall and identify a given sight word without hesitation. Most sight words have tricky phonetic rules making it difficult for most sight words to be sounded out, therefore it is important for your child to be able to memorize and recall a given sight word within three seconds. By memorizing and recalling sight words within text, your child is building a solid foundation to reading fluently. Please remember that attached to your child's spelling list is a list of sight word cards that may be cut into flashcards. Each week your child will learn four sight words and then increase to five sight words later in the year. Please see the list of sight words to the left of the screen. Your child will be assessed on Monday, September 27th.
