Field Trip Reminder to Parents

The first grade students will be traveling to the Pittsburgh Zoo for our grade level field trip on Thursday, May 16th.We will depart from the school around 9:20 AM and arrive back to the school between 5:00-5:15 PM We (first grade teachers) are permitted to take five parent chaperones on the field trip.

In the past, family members have shown up unannounced at field trip venues expecting to spend the day with their child and their child’s assigned group. This presents a series of safety-related issues. The classroom-approved chaperones have been instructed by the classroom teachers to limit interactions from other adults. Not all parents in a particular grade level are familiar with one another. If a teacher is not expecting you to be present on a field trip because you were not chosen as a chaperone, the chaperones that were chosen will not be expecting your presence either and may not know that you are a parent of a child in their assigned group. The chaperones that were chosen and approved have also been given materials and an agenda of the day provided by the classroom teacher to assist them with their group and events. The chaperones are in charge of their assigned students for the duration of the trip.
If you choose to attend the field trip, but were not chosen as a chaperone, there are some guidelines that must be followed in order to ensure safety and order on the field trip:

·You may not shadow a group associated with Keystone Elementary School. You are to tour the zoo on your own.

·If you insist on spending the day at the zoo with your child, you will need to request a family field trip form from the office to fill out prior to the field trip. You will be responsible for transporting your own child to the zoo in your own vehicle.

·You are responsible for purchasing your own admission ticket when you arrive at the zoo.

·If you fill out a family field trip request form to spend the day with your child, you will also be responsible for purchasing your child’s admission ticket when you arrive at the zoo.
Please remember that this is all with your child’s safety in mind.A field trip is always very exciting for our children, but we need to keep everyone’s safety at the forefront of our minds for a truly successful day.
